Brain Fog Friday

Ellie and I would love to tell you how Friday morning in Stockholm was.  However, we missed all of it.  David woke me up at 7:45 to let me know he was headed to work and that Ellie had crawled in bed with me and fallen asleep.  I decided a little more sleep would be a good thing.  A while later I woke up and looked at the clock, it was 11:24!!!!  Oops.  We had missed the free breakfast downstairs so I fed Ellie cold pizza for breakfast.  She loved it!!!
Once we got moving and dressed we ventured out for our first trip to the grocery store.  Roughly three blocks away from the hotel is a Maxi ICA, which is basically a small Wal-mart on 3rd and 4th floors of a building.  Ellie thought the angled people movers were the coolest because she could ride up a floor in her stroller.  There wasn’t a huge selection compared to some US stores but they had pretty much every department you could one would want – kitchenware, bath, home furnishings, laundry, small appliance, books, clothing.  On the third floor, were all the food.  There was quite a selection of items.  Most of which Ellie and I didn’t recognize.  Even she was excited when we got to the produce section.  She started naming every fruit and vegetable we saw.  It took us 2 hours to walk to and from the store and find the ingredients for a simple hamburger supper.  The biggest challenge was finding what you were looking for.  The layout is much different than what I am use to and when you find the right section then the question is what of the options is closest to what I am looking for.
Back at the hotel it was time to tackle an easy project – a couple of loads of laundry.  Loading the machine, easy.  How much detergent to add – guess since the directions are in Swedish.  Now where is the ON button and how do I select a program.  The hotel was nice enough to have a few directions written in English, so overall it wasn’t a bad experience.  The machines are about ½ as big as what I am use to so my one load turned into 2.
After laundry was complete it was time to head out to Jason’s house for a home cooked meal.  Jason is an American who came over on the same project as David but transitioned in July so he would be here in time for his kids to start school.  We had a great evening with good food, laughter and a side of advice.
