After all of the busyness of the week, we decided to have a more laid back Sunday. We slept in a little and then had breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we took David to Maxi ICA for his first experience. In addition to getting the items we needed for a spaghetti dinner we also looked for some household goods like curtains and an iron. We are finding that the type of curtains we would like to buy, blackout for summertime, are just not sold this time of year. I have been told that this is pretty much true for everything in Sweden. If you see it and like it, buy it. It won’t be there next time. David actually really like the ICA and thought it was pretty easy to navigate. Maybe shopping can become his job <evil grin>. After our grocery trip, we decided to take a couple of suitcases of things we are not using over to the apartment, mainly electronics, extra medications and toiletries we ended up with and travel specific things like the neck pillows. The trip was pretty smooth because the subway was not too crowded. It was so neat to unpack the first of our things in our new place.
We walked through the neighborhood to a lighting store that we had seen before, just to check out what lighting options we had. Wow, they had some amazing fixtures, at some amazing prices. They were all very nice but not really in the budget since we are planning to use them for 2-3 years. We were all getting pretty hungry but thought no problem; there are about 100 restaurants in a 10 block radius. Only problem…most of them are closed on Sunday. We stopped at the first non-Thai place we found. We got to do coat check at the door. It is very popular at restaurants here in Sweden, especially in the winter months. It was 10 kronos per ticket – about $1.30. We both knew we were in trouble when we saw the cloth napkins and tablecloths but Ellie was pretty desperate. The menu was very Swedish. David had a Swedish hamburger. It was served without a bun in a gravy and onion sauce. It had very good flavor. Ellie ordered Swedish pancakes. They came with marmalade, ham sauce, and ice cream in bowls on the side. She took a few bites of pancake but ate the marmalade with a spoon. I have vegetarian eggrolls with goat cheese and rice. Very yummy. In our search for food, we saw two antique stores and could see light fixtures displayed. Maybe a side trip for Ellie and I one day as we continue our search for lighting.
We have a very good dinner of spaghetti. David did a good job coming up with something close to what we have at home. Dinner was followed with webcams with the grandparents – a great way to end the weekend.
