Moving Day

We were up early to make it to the apartment before the movers.  Ellie wasn’t quite sure what to expect from moving day.  We were able to get a couple of suitcases unloaded and David was able to hang two more light fixtures before they arrived.  It is against city ordnance to bring a shipping container into the city.  The container was dropped outside the city.  The movers then loaded everything onto a small moving truck and a small trailer.  The boxes they were able to bring up the elevator along with the smaller pieces of furniture.  The bigger pieces had to come of 3 flights of stairs.  The movers were very quick even bringing pieces up the stairs.  By 12:15 everything was in the apartment.
After a quick lunch, the movers helped up get the furniture unwrapped and were out by 2:15.  The furniture was wrapped in padded paper and all of the fabric covered furniture had been shrink-wrapped.  We spent the afternoon arranging furniture, putting beds together and trying to find sheets and towels.  Ellie found her bike and was so excited.  She wanted to ride so we let her ride to a local café.  After a yummy lasagna supper with warm scones, we went back to the hotel for another load of things including all of the electronics.  Ellie rode her bike the whole way.
While David and Ellie set up electronics, I worked on washing a load of towels.  We didn’t have any owner’s manuals for the appliances in the apartment. But how hard could a load of towels be?  They washed fine but after two trips through the dryer, I was having flashbacks to college, when all the “dryers” produced was warm, wet items.  We made the decision to deal with it in the morning.  After making our first phone calls from the apartment, we headed back to the hotel to crash.

Boxes coming up in the hiss (elevator).

The large moving van.

The trailer with the rest of our things.

The last of the boxes!
